   🤔I will never tell people not to protest. Protests are supposed to be disruptive, to draw attention to a cause.

   But if ~70% of US citizens already support a call for a ceasefire, including a majority of GOP and 80%+ of Dems (not a typo), it seems focus should be on politicians?

     Do folks realize how much 70% is?

     Do you like ice cream? I like ice cream. "Everyone" likes ice cream!

     And yet, only 70% of US folk keep ice cream in their fridge at all times?

     People want a ceasefire more than they want to have ice cream available at all times.

     If you can ignore 70% of people, you can ignore 80% or 90% of people. So I don't think that this is an awareness problem or a "change hearts and minds" problem.

     One among many pieces of evidence that in our democracy, democracy is not the primary power shaping the behavior of politicians.

     What percentage of (non-proportional) Senate seats support this?

     What percentage of (racially gerrymandered) House districts?

     What percentage of donor dollars?

     Sure, or add seats to make the Senate marginally more proportional, or…. There are many good proposals. The question is how we get there when the political survival of the people with the power to change this depends on not changing it. This is a constitutional amendment, which must pass via the very non-proportional all-states-are-the-same-size system it seeks to fit.

     @inthehands @mekkaokereke I still think we ought to reallocate senate districts to not necessarily follow state lines. Keep the same number of senators, but reallocate the districts so each district represents about the same number of people - more like the house, but senate districts are national, while the house still represents the states
