     oh no, linus fuckes up by telling people that server CPUs cant be used for gaming because they have a low clock speed :blobcatfacepalm2: well at least he is partly right, but only because there is literally no game built for using 256 cores at the same time... they are all optimzied for way less than that

     @icedquinn like Consumer computer are still optimized to get out as much Ghz as possible, while server CPUs are built for having a good performance while also having a good efficiency

     @Jain @icedquinn Makes me wonder if the quite annoying thing that's current-era boost-mode (unstable thermals and effectively broken benches) exists on server CPUs.

     @skalt711 Seriously... they are just scaled up Zen cores... AMD built Zen in something they called CCD (Core Complex Dies) and I/O Dies... So basically Threadrippers or even Epyc's do "just" have more CCD's and more I/O Dies. In reality it is a bit more complexer tho but if in a generalized point of view they are just scalled up Zen CPU's.
     
     And btw, using PCIe 5 is actually an overkill for a GPU, i would rather prefer to have 4x 16x PCIe 4.0 instead of 1x 16x PCIe 5.0 rn.

     @Jain@blob.cat Normal Threadrippers? Probably. They have extra PCIe lanes for an extra video card (AI likes bandwidth!) :blobcatnomfloppy:
     
     Threadripper Pro's, on the other hand, have 8 memory slots as well as more PCIe lanes, but the 7 PCIe x16 slot motherboards look strange! Can more than 2 RTX 4090's even be physically placed? :blobcat_witch:
     
     Funny how the old PC motherboards featured a lot of ISA and PCI slots, but they're needed for extra hardware that is nowadays offered by modern hardwares' built-in I/O. I'm not that old enough to remember these slots, though! :blobcatflop:
