   For the last few months I've been trying to get an itemized bill from the giant "non-profit" hospital system that patched me up in February.      Dear lord. That’s… 🤯

     I won’t tell you about my experience with emergency surgery in France (2001, public not private hospital) that kept me in the hospital a week and then had daily nurse visits for another week for wound care.

     You’d cry.

     I second the suggestions about TV. Send details to state/federal senators/representatives + CA Attorney General.

     @kegill I did reach out to the CA AG but never heard back.

     He might be mad at me because I've said some not nice things about him.

     @mmasnick This is one of those things that is just infuriating to READ, much less live through. After a certain point it honestly starts to look like purposeful, weaponized incompetence, actively trying to hide what the system is doing under the hood. Plus the whole mess of facility bills plus a bill from the doctor is still just plain stupid.
     I can't imagine running a business/institution without being able to pull that kind of data up on reasonable request, at minimum for auditing purposes.
