dassauerkraut (dassauerkraut@shortstacksran.ch)'s status on Sunday, 12-Nov-2023 05:22:03 JST dassauerkraut @hazlin @Vril_Oreilly Yeah mine gets used for however long I'm on the PC, then the PC gets shutoff when I'm done, so it gets rest periods. Hardware that's conditioned to run 24/7 like in data centers has to stay powered on and running, alot of it dies if it gets completely shutoff. I've been told that's an issue with storage drives atleast. -

And, I do know someone who had a GPU run 24/7 playing streams on a monitor, and it died way earlier.
I'm going to go with, continuous use is way harder on a card. -

I used to warranty exchange my cards a lot when they started acting up, which was great but probably why they don't offer that anymore. Maybe I'll have to look into repasting or some type of other cooling setup. I used to have a self contained water cooled system, which everybody pooh-poohs, but it was so so quiet I miss it. Honestly might go back to it and possibly a custom case just because I like the idea of building the stuff and enjoy that aspect more than using it these days. Nick repeated this. -

Do people actually spread it around? I just used a coffee filter after making a THIN spiral three or four times around, and the heat and weight seems to do the job. Is that wrong? Every time I've taken it apart later, it's fully spread. -

Nothing had broken or cracked then paste ruining its thermal conductivinty. It mainly works due to the silver content so its not gonna fail so long as it keeps contact. BowserNoodle ☦️ likes this. -

I usually just add a drop, you can tell if it is wrong by looking at the temperatures.
I've never heard of replacing the past before, maybe I'll see if I can find some empirical support for that. -

That plate you see is the lid that adds a flat protective thermal surface that makes it hard to fuck up the chips. Look up direct die cooling for yours and they’ll usually have gone full tism before they delidded it. BowserNoodle ☦️ likes this. -
