     @nemesis @ai category theory is evil though
     
     Hard to see something as useful if it doesn't have a direct relationship to the world, I figure. Algebra is obviously useful, calculus in some circumstances, a lotta probability stuff, but the more abstract stuff like set theory or group theory seems pointless

     @MercurialBuilding @ai group theory is obviously useful though? plenty of things are best described as groups, e.g. lots of stuff in physics

     @MercurialBuilding I believe its possible to ground math in category theory instead of set theory but I don't know the details

     @MercurialBuilding don't you need set theory for sigma-algebras (the logic kind not the probability kind) to make sense? and you need those for logic and algebra which is the foundation of everything else
