Good analysis of AI. The scariest thing about it IMO is that it's absolutely going to become "good enough". And will be used for low effort mass production shit. AI generated ads, game textures, website designs, first draft marvel movie scripts, backgrounds for animations, ipad games, etc. And the quality of literally ANYTHING digital will turn to generic shit over time. And scale of cost for productive output is going to fuck with the economy.

FourOh-LLC (fouroh-llc@pkteerium.xyz)'s status on Tuesday, 07-Nov-2023 08:26:13 JST FourOh-LLC I see something entirely different.
"mass production" is a benefit to an Industrial Civiliation, which is Humanity.
Its not too difficult to see how "mass production" drove a higher rate of employment.
A cheap, "good enough" AI is no difference. I work in manufacturing for over 30 years, I 3D print and I am learning to use the AI to help me create my models faster. I hope soon I can do far more, focusing on the interesting parts while the AI does the boring parts.
Nothing is different from what is happening in the last 200 years. -

Sir Nedwood - Sydney 🇦🇺 (ned@noagendasocial.com)'s status on Tuesday, 07-Nov-2023 08:40:17 JST Sir Nedwood - Sydney 🇦🇺 @FourOh-LLC I'm not talking about the method. I'm talking about the outcome. It sounds like your contraptions are practical, which is cool and all. I don't deny that is what AI is good at. It's a lever that allows people with insuffiecient skill to achieve a task. And that is exactly what I mean by "good enough for mass production shit". Large amounts of things can be produced with low effort, and little thought.

FourOh-LLC (fouroh-llc@pkteerium.xyz)'s status on Tuesday, 07-Nov-2023 08:40:18 JST FourOh-LLC I use FreeCAD and OpenSCAD to design around existing COTS such as PVC pipes, hardware cloth, steel plates and such. I use more COTS to join and strengthen the segments such as fencing wire or even mortars and cement. I experiment with building caterpillar tracks and conveyors, to collect and optimize CAD data about them.
In decade or so, just before I retire, I am going to create a local maker association, where we sell the contraptions we build, and use the funds to build and maintain a local "data center".
Its a plan which is not entirely terrible. Thanks for asking. -

LOL yes, true. In this sense it's like AI is a drug that is being used off label. Stick to the prescription it's a useful tool. Hand it out at a party for disastrous consequences.

FourOh-LLC (fouroh-llc@pkteerium.xyz)'s status on Tuesday, 07-Nov-2023 08:55:01 JST FourOh-LLC Well, I was not talking about the AI eliminating poverty and stupidity.
In the industrial sectors the AI going behave in a predictable and repeatable manner, as all automation should, and it will not create social upheaval.
Which is interesting, if you think about it. The hobbyists and the pros in robotics are the least romantic about the AI, they are ready to send it to space and not bring it back.
Its the "humanists" who are romancing the AI, as a bride with death due us part and nonsense. It is the "humanists" going to decide when the AI is "good enough" to marry.
My engineering race has no such issues, the AI was "good enough" from day one, for any purpose that was functional, predictable and repeatable.
