@doctorsex @MeBigbrain Eh the Beatles had some decent material here and there from Rubber Soul and onwards but I agree they're highly overrated and half their catalogue is outright unlistenable. Disagree regarding Zeppelin but I haven't listened to much of their post-IV catalogue. No comment on the Stones.
As for Sabbath, I feel like as a whole they're a tad overrated but I think distinction between eras (e.g., early when they had Ozzy, Dio era) is needed.

@doctorsex A lot of old bands are. Never saw the appeal of Led Zeppelin myself.

Zeppelin: mid
The stones: mid
The Beatles: absolute hog shit
Sabbath: better than mid but still overrated
Steely dan: appropriately, if not ever-so-slightly overrated but they still hold up real good
I'm not denying these bands their contributions for sure, I just don't think they need much credit beyond that. They walked so others could run.

@Humpleupagus @Tadano @doctorsex @MeBigbrain Interesting convo. I disagree with most of what you fellas are saying, but then, I'm prob a bit older than you.
Just for reference, tho, who would in your view NOT be overrated?

@Humpleupagus @Tadano @doctorsex @MeBigbrain Really? I like him in doses.
Here's a question: Would you take Zappa over Beefheart? See, for me at least, the answer to that question is never ever ever ever.

Because Zappa tends to be underrated.
The question was "who isn't overrated?"
