I'm a fan of Jaws, I'm the first one to come out and say so. but unified keyboard processing is a bad, bad, bad, bad, bad thing from where I'm sitting. I've been struggling with this machine for literally months without knowing why. I've just found out why.

@remixman @lulu_bear So it is meant to do two things as I understand it: to provide better interaction between JAWS and ZoomText. It also gives access to JAWS reporting information when various media keys are pressed, such as volume keys on keyboards. The problem at the moment is that a lot of keys are not being passed through either to JAWS or applications as a whole. For example, you may not be able to move through lists of items. You may not be able to deploy the menu bar of an application because pressing the ALT key does not bring it into focus. That's the kind of critical thing we're talking about here. It is made more complicated by the fact that as to whether you receive a problem can depend upon your keyboard language in Windows or indeed the keyboard itself I believe, which makes it hard to pin down the problems. But while I understand what this thing is meant to do, I'm not sure there is justification quite yet for enabling it by default when the product is installed. All it's doing is causing difficulties for many.

@brianhartgen @lulu_bear What exactly is this feature for/how does it work?

@lulu_bear Well it's my fault for not checking that on your machine. I admit that. But as to the point, it seems I am almost a lone voice. I keep saying to Vispero that Unified Keyboard Processing is simply not working as they think it does. And that is why it is enabled now by default. You have just proved the point again that it doesn't work properly. For the past two weeks it has caused me a great deal of stress because I've had to help hundreds of people with this very issue. I'll do everything in my power to help with anything I've created. But it's crazy to do this for something which is really bad.

@brianhartgen @remixman @lulu_bear I've been filing reports on reports on this nonsense all through the beta cycle, and I felt ignored, brushed off, and like my reports didn't make a lick of difference. I literally just updated my companies training docs that one of the first things we'll be doing to a clients machine is ***disabling*** that feature. It's not worth the hassle.
