@royal @1dalm Yet, anyway. Perhaps there's enough of a market for privacy-conscious people that Jeep or someone will get it right for some of their vehicles....

royal (royal@theres.life)'s status on Tuesday, 31-Oct-2023 23:08:04 JST royal @1dalm I'm no fan of internal combustion. I think I will care about things like having physical controls inside the cockpit area instead of just a touchscreen. Would love to choose a manufacturer that doesn't rely on subscriptions and surveillance, but I doubt there are any.

royal (royal@theres.life)'s status on Tuesday, 31-Oct-2023 23:08:06 JST royal For decades we've bought #Honda and #Toyota partly because we like their cars but largely because we value the reliability of their internal combustion engines.
We're not ready to convert to EVs just yet; plenty of life left in our current vehicles. But that does leave me wondering what our criteria will be for choosing an #EV. Do we stick with the brands we know? I would be less worried about engine reliability when there's no internal combustion going on.Just a thought, for now.

Jaime Visser (jaimevisser@mastodon.nl)'s status on Wednesday, 01-Nov-2023 02:15:38 JST Jaime Visser @royal @1dalm the whole thing with Tesla is that you really don't need many physical controls. I got a company lease Model 3 and so far (4 years) a lot of things I used to adjust or fiddle with "just work" so I don't miss physical controls as much as I thought I would.

Also, what changed their minds on the EV Jeep?

Big Diggity (big_diggity@theres.life)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Nov-2023 05:39:00 JST Big Diggity @IslandUsurper Actually, we bought a new car a year ago because of how weird prices were. Supply & Demand. We could by a brand new car (if we waited 2 months for delivery) for the same price as a 2 or even 3 year old car of the same make/model. Being patient for a couple months was worth it.
I'm speaking about a non-EV car. I have trust issues with EV at the moment. I'm a big electrical fan, so I naturally want to be in support, but the surveillance issue and the fact that we live rural has me concerned.

My first android phone was a Motorola Milestone (EU Droid) and I still miss having physical keyboards on phones.
I get where you're coming from, but I don't miss physical controls in my Tesla.

Jaime Visser (jaimevisser@mastodon.nl)'s status on Saturday, 02-Dec-2023 03:36:38 JST Jaime Visser @fuat2mb @royal @1dalm You don't need to wear gloves in a Tesla. You can preheat the car and it'll be nice and warm when you leave. There's also gloves with capacitive patches that work with touchscreens. Unless something weird is going on I never need to touch the touchscreen anyway.
And yes, software updates can change the interface and you can also customise it to a degree. Stuff has stayed in the same spot in the 5 years I have had a 3 though.
