     That’s silly. I highly doubt that using #Mastodon in your name should get you in court, especially since there’s been a long-standing rock band called #Mastodon that predates the software. And it’s a word that originally refers to an animal. This frivolous lawsuit, if real, would be DOA, I’d assume.

     Even, as a last resort, hiding behind parody should protect you too.

     @Gargron what specific grounds were you planning on using to sue this instance?

     We had a year’s experience running Mastodon but saw the writing on the wall about the coming obsolescence of Ruby based Mastodon. #Pleroma/#Soapbox is faster, more resource efficient, & the future of the Fediverse.

     We run #Soapbox OTP Stable (not the latest Soapbox.be) And we run #Masto-FE on our subdomain for those that want the #Mastodon interface: m.mastodon.tech

     I’d still argue, though, that the general consunsus among that thread is correct, naming a #Soapbox instance after #Mastodon is a terrible idea.

     @Gargron isn’t American though, he lives in #Germany

     I’m not familiar with German trademark law. He could be right. Maybe he could get you in legal trouble in #Germany.
