@Gargron whenever I take an ICE I play a game I like to call "so what's it going to be this time?"
Usually it's something small, like seat reservations not being properly displayed, but many times it's long delays or last minute track changes that can really mess up your plans.
Don't get me wrong, taking the train is one of my favourite ways to travel, but this country really needs to show our tracks some love.
@Gargron “reliable in nothing but its own unreliability” deserves a word of its own! I’m sure that the German collective genius of word concatenation has already come up with one.
@Gargron When I use DB, I just take the train 1-2 hours earlier than the one that's supposed to be the right one according to schedule. Of course, the timing depends on how far I'm going, but planning my trips this way didn't cause problems. I have to add, it has happened already that my train arrived on time according to their schedule. When that happens, it's kind of a bummer, because I have a lot of time out there not being able to do anything; but this happens rarely, I can live with it.
@Gargron I frequently use the ICE trains operated by Deutsche Bahn to travel from Berlin to Hannover. Ideally, I should arrive within one hour and forty minutes. However, this rarely happens, and as a result, I end up paying the full, expensive fare.
