"On June 24, 1993, Severe Tire Damage became the first band to livestream a concert on the internet.

The band subsequently began live streaming every Wednesday night. Viewers of the weekly streams could change the camera angle, adjust the audio mix, and even control a fog machine in the band’s basement."

THIRTY YEARS LATER and we still can't do that shit with livestreamed concerts. This band was WAY ahead of its time!

@iquaanyin I don't get it either. Technology has been ready for this for 30 years. And audiences are CERTAINLY ready for it.

How was this not a thing during COVID lockdown?

@killyourfm this reminds me of a homage to them we did as part of a conference a couple of years ago! https://fosstodon.org/@lminiero/109307066091739113

Attached: 1 video It was about a year ago that I participated in a remote #music collaboration to homage "Severe Tire Damage", the first band to ever #livestream a concert on the internet in '93 (as you'll hear in the video, one year before Rolling Stones did! 😱 ), with an arrangement of "Not Dead Yet", one of their songs. It was premiered in the Agora RTE2021 Developer Night at the time, and then shared publicly. It was a lot of fun to record my parts! (even though part of the solo was cut eventually 🤭 )
