     @Rocc Aren't the bands in automatic transmissions consumable parts? Some automatic transmissions have clutches inside them, too.

     @tk I'm bummed that just as trucking's looking attractive again, the really fun stuff technology gave us to semiautomate the manuals that dominate the industry and give us the best of both worlds are trying to be forced out for slushbox torque convertors again in automatic trucks.

     And stick shift manuals suck for sleeper cabs.

     @tk The semiautomatics are *amazing* though. You still need to know how a manual works to have a feel for when the truck is going to be on the clutch (locking out the throttle) if you don't want the sensation the truck is just doing what the truck wants, and they won't creep. Except for clutch lifts, you really have to use the accelerator like you would in a manual or it won't drive the way you expect.

     @tk@bbs.kawa-kun.com yes they are. But their life cycle is basically the life of the car.
     
     Modern "sealed" automatic transmissions are more expensive than engines now bro. Not worth it
