@LeftistLawyer@peterbutler Excellent essay. Another side of the mental illness cube is micronutrient imbalance resulting from a food system designed around profit rather than health. Mineral deficiencies or toxicities can contribute to anxiety, depression, aggression, etc. Foods "fortified" with synthetic nutrients, while nutritious on paper, lack the bioavailability that diverse real food has. A poorly fed biosystem leads to poor decision making.
@ArrowbearMoore@LeftistLawyer Consumerism also fuels climate change and environmental collapse, perhaps even more than capitalism itself (?). Consider every single-use plastic purchase or filling up the tank to drive to Costco ...
@LeftistLawyer Consumerism fuels the engine of capitalism, capitalism pushes fuel production, it's a snake eating its tail. Starve capitalism of its fuel, quit buying so much of its shit. Make something yourself, be content without the newest, bestest thing on the market.
Boundless economic growth, constrained within a bounded system, is one such obvious logical impossibility.
Herb Stein -- Senior Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute -- DEFINED IRONY when he coined the phrase "If something cannot go on forever, it will stop."
One of the most important ways YOU can contribute to the end of rapacious capitalist consumption for profit is to make this clear to everyone you know -- at every opportunity you get.
