    So, a decentralized alternative to Bandcamp is needed?

    In theory musicians can use Mitra to release music to paid subscribers. I can also implement a paywall mechanism that works on individual posts.

      @don I know you can share music there, but does it provide tools to financially support artists? In my opinion Bandcamp did a really good job in that area.

      @Zerglingman @don That's what I'm trying to build, a self-hosted publishing tool with a payment processor. No more middlemen

      @silverpill @don oh yeah artists should set up their own little shops. BMT Micro are pretty cool for payment stuff (about as cool as you can get with payment stuff, other than just accepting cryptos because fuck kikels), you can probably do it with wordpress and a few plugins; not that I recommend that, but it's better than relying on centralisation.

      @teknomunk @Zerglingman @don If we are talking about publishing tools with integrated payments, there's a fierce competition, actually. All these blockchain apps, from ethereum-based and bitcoin-based (you can find a bunch in the Nostr land), to countless shitcoin-powered sites. Many of them are open source and can be self-hosted, at least in theory.

      Finding a decent one is a challenge, that's true.

      @Zerglingman do you think Mitra is not a decent one? If so, how do you think it can be improved?

      @Zerglingman @don @silverpill

      It would be nice to have that problem, to be honest. Means there is competition.

      @silverpill @don Something something 15 competing standards.
      But since I can't name a single decent implementation of that off-hand, I can't really say that.

      Paywall for individual posts enables many new use cases. Basically it turns fediverse server into a marketplace.

      But how it should work? The server may send an automated reply with an unlocked version of a post, as a direct message. This can also be a beginning of a private discussion between the post author and the person who made the payment.

      @teknomunk Yes, the unlocked post should be a different object, to avoid leaks.
      Unlocked post can have some attribute telling the server that two posts must be merged into one, but only for certain viewers. But it's complicated, I think a private thread is good enough solution

      Probably? The other thing I thought of would be an Update turning the post into the unlocked version, but that would probably end up with the post unlocked for everyone on the server the user is on.
