  The SAT is well documented and you have 18 years to prepare for it. The government spends collectively trillions of dollars across the states to prepare students via the K-12 schooling program.

  @NitroDubs @BronzeAgeHogCranker @funnymonkey @amerika Never took the SAT but I came by a "Free ACT" voucher somewhere and figured "what the hell" and woke up one Saturday morning after working the taco stand all night and ran over to the high school and took it and got some apparently crazy score even though I thought I sucked at it:
  >"Top 80%-90%, there's no way 90% of the country is dumber than my stupid self!"

  @EvilSandmich @funnymonkey @BronzeAgeHogCranker @amerika @NitroDubs SAT measures reasoning ability not knowledge, prep doesn't help other than getting a good night's sleep. ACT is knowledge and you can prep for it. I can't read the article because of paywall+lazy but the correlation to family wealth probably is because of control over environmental factors like prenatal care, not living in a stressful household, nutrition, not having poisonous drinking water like living in Detroit etc. The SATs remove questions from scoring if they detect that any innate demographic groups score too far above or below everyone else, indicating a question with some kind of cultural bias.

  @BronzeAgeHogCranker @funnymonkey @amerika I farted out an 1,110 with zero prep and didn’t even know I’d be taking it the day I did. This was back when 1,600 was perfect. I view three digit scores on the SAT to be borderline retarded.

  the best advice for standardized testing is: get a good night's sleep; dress comfortably, prefer dressing with more layers that you can remove if too warm, cold rooms are a bigger problem than warm ones; skip questions immediately if you don't know the answer and go back to them if you have time. if the test is given on paper, don't spend as much time on questions at the end of the test sheet.

  @BronzeAgeHogCranker @funnymonkey @amerika @EvilSandmich @NitroDubs new york times doesn't want to hear it but you can't fix learning problems after the fact by just ramming people into higher education. all that has happened is that universities added high school level classes and adult daycare degrees. I think the best thing you could do to help underserved people without redoing the entire system, is strongly pressuring employers into getting rid of expensive credentialism for entry to well paying/path-to-well-paying jobs. I know older engineers that retired with no degree that would never even be given a chance in 2023.

  The questions (and types of questions) are known well beforehand, and trillions are spent on schooling, not to mention billions poured in to specifically inner city school programs to "get dat equity"
  
  If I were a black inner city student I would simply attempt to pass the exam
