@idiot @newt reconditioned old thinkpad with coreboot would be perfect except for lack of gpio but you can probably just get a usb thing with that if they wanted it.

@Moon @idiot @newt Many of the older ThinkPads have parallel over a DB25 which could be used for GPIO stuff, but they'd be better off with some Arduinos anyway which are way more beginner-friendly for that sort of thing.

@birdulon @Moon @idiot @newt just give them a used business laptop, a USB cable and a collection of microcontroller dev boards (arduino, esp32, rp2040)
