I need some help with this.
Cosgrave's comments seem about as mild as I can imagine.
Is there a subtext I'm missing? Is it just putting emphasis on the bombings rather than 10/7 that puts these statements beyond the pale?

I mean, this is what Joe Biden said today:
"Israel has the right to defend itself. We must make sure they have what they need to protect their people today and always.
At the same time, Prime Minister Netanyahu and I have discussed how Israel must operate by the laws of war. That means protecting civilians in combat as best as they can."
"Don't commit atrocities" does not seem like the kind of position that should get you blacklisted.
I also find his later comparisons of the Israel/Palestine conflict with the Troubles in Northern Ireland to be apt and inspiring.

@evan There are parallels, but this isn't a religious or sectarian conflict; it's about history, colonialism, and mass displacement (including millions of Palestinians forced from their homes, and several generations growing up in refugee camps).
I don't know what a peace will look like, but since the West started the problem with the post-WWI colonial mandates, I wouldn't trust us to end it. The solution will have to come from Palestinians and Israelis themselves.
So, this NPR story has a quote by a former Meta exec.
And this Fortune article has a lot of confirmations by different organisations:

OK, this one has some actual quotes.

They're mostly just, "We pulled out", though.
fwiw. I try to avoid saying "war crimes" especially without any specifics like his original post - which could be construed (although not intended) as implying the Hamas attack was justified for perhaps decades of 'war crimes.' That's the problem with not being very specific and/or using e-prime like language with hot-button issues.
I think something like "I am shocked and dismayed that more western leaders are not publicly reminding our allies about the prohibitions on [insert list] provided by International Law. It is in the interest of all democratic nations to uphold these limits to war - even in response to horrific attacks.
@exador23 you're hired!
