   The slow but steady background noise of my “migrate everything ever to a self-hosted instance” project is nice.

   It's an ugly sprawling cluster of migration scripts, scraping, and data processing scripts with a light framework for running them in batches.

     It currently imports and normalizes everything I've written on:

     facebook
     instagram
     metafilter
     tumblr
     drupal.org
     github
     wordpress
     pinboard
     jekyll blogs
     sql dumps from drupal 5, 6, 7, and 8 sites
     sql dumps from movable type blogs

     currently in progress: importing keynote presentations, reddit posts and comments, and a cluster of other weird edge cases.

     right now it's built as a normalizer — taking API responses, scraped page contents, and Service Migration Downloads from all those sources and normalizing them into huge piles of JSON files that can be loaded/parsed/wrangled consistently.

     Next step is moving it into an arangodb instance, where crosslinks and connections (like ‘post X is a repost of post Y, from service Z”) into a knowledge graph with embeddings because ~ wheeee ~

     Over the years I’ve kept *mostly* scrupulous backups of various projects, which means that for almost everything I've built since the mid 90s I was able to dig up a .tgz file or a SQL dump or a static HTML version or *something*.

     Mind, it's not like anyone is ASKING for this material. But I've become really interested in the idea of building and mining repositories like this.

     I guess the takeaway is that if you're, uh, moving off of like six different social media and blogging sites simultaneously and are comfortable fucking with some typescript setup code, I might have a pile of code you'd find useful. heh.

     @lewiscowles1986 Hah, yeah, the whole site's in github — the markup is just written to fit a particular “MacOS 7" stylesheet I had lying around, though. ;D

     @lewiscowles1986 no, that’s actually one of the pretty easy features that can just be toggled on when setting up a github backed netlify project. When I do rollout the bigger Full Migration it’ll be taking advantage of some weirder tricks, and I’ll def. Write up the details…

     PR sent; have you done or read a write-up on the netlify setup you have on that repo?

     Pretty dope that preview URL's just show up. Locally I was just using `python3 -m http.server`
