looking at new "open source" app
ask developer if it is free as in freedom or non-free source available
they don't understand
pull out illustrated diagram explaining what is free software and what is non-free software
they laugh and say "It's open source software, sir"
git clone repo
it's non-free source available

@mangeurdenuage@shitposter.club What do you mean wish to run the program as you wish, for any purpose?
We just gave you the source code so you can fix bugs for us. -

@SuperDicq It's VERY tiresome.
It's crazy that people often do not think about how we apply everyday innate or legal rights. -

@SuperDicq Maybe they don't give a fuck and just didn't add a license.
That's what my open source projects look like. They are propriatary, but I would probably never use law to protect my software. -

@p11 You're confusing proprietary restrictions with protection.
The government restricts your software and makes it proprietary even if you don't want it to be and you don't enforce your copyright; https://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.html#NoLicense
Your projects are source available, proprietary software and not "open source" by the "OSI"'s standard; https://opensource.org/osd (if you don't like these 10 requirements, you need to be able to provide a definition).
