   I can’t believe how often I still have to say this: when we say Autism is a spectrum condition, we don’t mean a spectrum that goes from “not very autistic” to “very autistic.” Not everyone is “on the spectrum”

   It means diagnostic criteria can be at opposite extremes: eg hyper and hypo empathy, skin sensitivity, etc.

   100% of autistic people are 100% autistic. Your stereotype of what makes someone autistic isn’t a diagnostic criteria.

     @satsuma yes, functioning labels are what neurotypical folks give us depending on how difficult they find us

     @BethanyBlack can we also cut the stuff about being “high functioning” too? Just because I can make it through a day at work (and be pretty good at it) doesn’t mean that it’s not a struggle most of the time.

     @BethanyBlack Indeed, spectrum, like a color wheel, different hues, satuation brightness...

     I'm hyper-verbal, I struggle to shut up, to keep my voice down, while I was a kid I was told I cant be autistic because I talk!

     Humanity has learned a lot since I was a kid, still not enough to not be humiliated based on someone else's stereotyping.

     Monotropic I am, indeed. Watch me hyperfocus for hours, lose track of time, forget to use the restroom, and hear a noise from 90 yards away that hurts me
