   Once again, the press coverage slips a gear:

   …and once again, the Ars comments are on point. Comments QFT:

   “Based on my use of LLM-based code tools over the last year or so, that first paragraph is excessively, wildly, enormously overstating the abilities of AI code tools in late 2023.”

   But: “The best part of ChatGPT versus Stack Overflow is that ChatGPT doesn't make you feel like an idiot for even asking.”

     “I doubt these layoffs have anything to do with LLMs, in the same way that Google's and Microsoft's layoffs similarly had nothing to do with LLMs. All of these companies went on an insane hiring binge in 2022, and then in 2023 when the Fed turned off the free money tap, they predictably all went into cost-cutting mode.”

     “The generative LLM part of the story almost feels like a sideshow.”
