     @ic3l9 danbooru etc. are kind of a blender and an archive, pixiv/DA/artstation/FA/etc are more of a portfolio-like place. These are good when you just want to show all the stuff you made basically, and problem there is that there's only artists there, users don't make much difference apart from providing comments. Social media is more of a mix of all things, a crowd of all kinds of people, and every person can promote some other thing, i.e. reprööt posts, which boosts popularity of an artist.
     
     Pixiv/DA are more of an art museum. Danbooru more of an archive. Social media are equivalent of putting your artwork on a billboard on a highway for free.
