   @FrohlichMarcel @jerry Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Bluesky system doesn't involve setting up and maintaining a separate instance so much as creating some kind of linkback to Bluesky? Or is there ongoing maintenance in both cases? If reporters could petition their IT people for a one-time setup vs ongoing labor, it would matter.

     @kevinrothrock @FrohlichMarcel @jerry Worth noting that the kind of independence self-hosting Mastodon affords you is incomparable to a custom username. You are running your own social media, straight up. No middlemen. It's not for everyone, but it's the kind of power no other social media platform gives you.
