This is why I'm not a fan of laptops, it's not easy to fix hardware problems, like fans starting to make noise nor is it easy to replace the disk. The laptop I have currently, I can't even open the backlid, there's something sticking it to the mobo.

But desktop setups, just open a panel, and voila, do whatever you want with it.

I guess I have to bring it to a service center. Problem with that:

1: official service centers = will take weeks
      2: expensive

When all I need is to clean the laptop, and potentially replace the disk. (Well, not potentially, really need to replace it.)

If I bring it to unofficial service "services": I can't be sure they won't make it worse.

      ---

Also, if I end up replacing the disk, are laptop disks easy to acquire? Compatible with any laptop models? I mean, for desktops, you can just use any disks, it's the cable and slots you have to worry about.

@youronlyone if it's under warranty, just bring it to the official service center. If not, there are a lot of popular and reliable laptop repair shops in metro manila (team spike, laptop factory, protech, stage 3 pc, etc). Search mo na lang sa Facebook pages nila. Most of them offer free computer checkups. Stage 3 PC at Sta. Mesa successfully revived my macbook pro.

If you're running windows, there are applications that will tell you the type of hdd/ssd and ram installed on your system.

@wago Yep. Everyone's moving to Wayland.

Hmm… I should get a Dell next time. ^_^ Mine's currently Acer, the mid-2020 model.

I try to buy laptops i can service but generally its not possible. I have a Dell that is totally serviceable including replacing the GPU which is a feature on very few laptops i have seen.  I need to upgrade the GPU on that because Nvidia abandoned that one so no driver updates, which means no vulkan no wayland and everybody is dumping xorg.
