hopefully this leads to entire swaths of urban real estate just being leveled because a lot of these buildings are way past the point where it makes any financial sense to try to rehab them.

@dew_the_dew @Shadowbroker2135 @elftummy The entire country is going to become Detroit. At least the cities anyway

@dew_the_dew @Shadowbroker2135 "people"?
And yeah when the economy was good it was a tiny bit profitable (but I never did it because I don't like section ape)
Now that it's impossible to find contractors any section ape housing is quickly becoming condemned through disrepair

@dew_the_dew @Shadowbroker2135 @elftummy Nah, that's not what I mean. A lot of apartment buildings and things like that in Detroit have been completely ruined by just not maintaining them. A lot of them are out right abandoned. That's what's going to happen to the remainder of the cities in this country thanks to section 8 bullshit. As mentioned, it's already hard to get a contractor. It's not even about the money, it's that nobody capable wants to do it

i mean to be fair there have been improvements in construction tech/materials since the early-mid 20th century when a lot of these houses were built. rehabbing 1940s homes one at a time until the whole block is nice again is not a viable strategy.

@dew_the_dew @Shadowbroker2135 @elftummy I don't think they're going to do that either. They don't do that in Detroit much. The city has a big problem with squatters actually. And I'm telling you, this shit is coming to the entire fucking country

New construction is a hell of a lot easier than even a partial gut and rehab.

@dew_the_dew @Shadowbroker2135 @elftummy They basically already have. Remember how they were trying to implement an indefinite moratorium on rent because muh COVID? People play all kinds of games like that in New York City and Los Angeles and so on. These places are at once zones where you have the absolutely worst tenants in the absolutely most corrupt and worst landlords. They're complete shit holes from every angle you look at them

Yeah I wouldn't want to be a landlord when all of a sudden the legal structures for the enforcement of evictions stop working. It's already enough of a PITA to go through the process as it is.
