Mordecai Martin (mordecaimartin@rage.love)'s status on Tuesday, 10-Oct-2023 03:18:09 JST Mordecai Martin @perigee they happen. The person in question has two kids in the IDF. She is certainly very scared, and probably has a right to be. I think it's interesting to note that the post that she was responding to was just fundraising for a children's organization that works in Gaza. She asked me why I don't advocate for Jewish children, the descendants of the Yiddish speakers I translate. I'm thinking seriously about her question, though it was meant in bad faith.

Mal 甄/kalessin/Peri (perigee@rage.love)'s status on Tuesday, 10-Oct-2023 03:24:57 JST Mal 甄/kalessin/Peri @MordecaiMartin Violence does its intended job - it dislocates us from reason and empathy and radicalizes everyone with something to lose from it.
Terrorists and warmongers depend on it, of course, to bypass normal democratic, reasonable governmental process and get their way, panicking us into quick and instinctive, often violent responses, bypassing careful planning and compassionate execution.
I wish we would somehow all avoid being so frightened. But I also don't want people to be quashed so much they cannot mount a reasonable defense. It is so difficult! But would asking for aid and perhaps ceasefire be so wrong?
