This "One Laptop Per Child" thing... Where do I drop off the child and when do I get my new laptop?

      Some great stories about OLPC.

Since it had true mesh networking, a single cable modem or internet satellite modem could be shared by every child in a school or a village.

The OLPC mesh was beautiful. A single internet connection shared between all children's OLPC.

It had great potential, but the cost was too high, and too much politics.

@tayledras @MostlyHarmless Bummer. I thought it was a great idea. Thanks for the info, and, thanks also for at least trying. Cheers.

It never reached it's goals. OLPC was trying to build affordable laptops for children at a production cost under $100 per laptop.

It wasn't even possible at $200 per laptop.

And then other manufacturers tried undercutting OLPC by offering school discounts and sales.

In the end, Chromebook was the real winner.

It also became an absolute mess of politics and in-fighting, like most Open Source and Altruistic projects.

I dropped out before it hit bottom. I wish I kept some of my OLPC gear.

OLPC was awesome. We still have ours.

OLPC also made parody shirts of "One Velociraptor Per Child" which many of us OLPC developers also wore.
