It doesn't matter how "right" you are about Bluesky; it matters how it feels to folks who haven't been out here for 90 days, don't know that half our communities kinda hate each other, and didn't sign up to be moderated by Welsh Pixie across every single instance.
You can argue till you're blue in the fact that Jack will betray them; they don't care or believe you. But they can sign up here and inside of 10 days find out what they DON'T like about Masto.

Tons of my friends have signed up for Bluesky the past several months, and they're all having a great time.
I can tell them "eventually you will regret this" till I run out of breath and it doesn't MEAN anything to them.
But all of them signed up here, struggled to make friends, went through two rounds of fedi drama and can't find their buddies from Twitter even though they both joined cause of how the servers work.
To folks who don't know better, I sound absolutely bonkers.

and here we are. They're not. They are NOT signing up and indeed many are leaving.

I think it's all about Bluesky evolving into what most of the majority want: Pre-MusKKKrat Twitter without the fascism and racism shoved down their
thro, throats.
It does look like they did run Jack out of there, though, because he saw that they didn't want the cyberjunk and open space dystopia he was originally selling. Lotsa luck building Nostr, Palie.
It's still a venture capitalist joint, and there are still issues they have to deal with, but gotta say I am surprised.

But, yeah, as a means of community building? The Fedi needs some major work, and some peeps need to stop being douchecanouhes and substituting their personal spoiled beef for racial gatekeeping.

@Gigi yeah I mean the thing is right, I actually do believe Mastodon is just BETTER than Bluesky. It's not that I think the folks saying BS will BECOME Twitter are wrong; I very much know they're right.
My problem is that we're pretending it's a knowledge fail, when it's not - it's literally that the user experience here sucks, until you realize it's like interconnected forums, not a centralized social media app like Twitter.
And I dunno how to fix it, but I know the "drama" team ain't helping

Oh, I'm not naive in any way that the potential of BSky getting bought out by another MusKKKrat-type wingnut wanting to monetize its processes and kick out the marginalized and the Left doesn't exist.
Until we unite and develop a people's platform, or the Feds move in and kick MusKKKrat out and allow for better, public utility-minded leadership to restore and build upon the best of what was Twitter, gotta dance with the discos we have.

It's always been the same. We didn't want to get on Facebook, on Twitter, we didn't want to use Amazon and Google Mail, and all the other Katamari platforms Doctorow now identifies as enshittifying.

@AnarchoNinaWrites I’m absolutely unsurprised. Mastodon is indie dev nerd heaven and I can tell you from personal experience that indie dev nerds are the most vicious motherfuckers ever.
And they are always able to justify that shit as “for the greater good”.
They will absolutely shove people into ovens in the name of whatever purity of cause they love, and the cause is unimportant. They’ll do it to lord power over the targets.

@AnarchoNinaWrites Almost everyone I know who joined fedi and left, left because they were welcomed with a bunch of messages telling them social norms they had to adopt out of nowhere.
Even though it is sometimes well intentioned, my friends got messages telling them about alt-text, CWs, chatting with the "wrong people", how they shouldn't ever post anything with irony, etc. So, they left.
When I first joined in 2016 we just encouraged people to send new folks a " 🍍 ". So, you would suddenly get tons of messages like "welcome, have a 🍍 ". It was way more fun, still built a distinct culture, and made it more inclusive.
