@mira oh yeah I'm fully aware, every time I read 17th and 18th and even 19th century social philosophy and science stuff I'm just slapped in the face with these absurd and grandiose statements. And it's always like Middle School philosophy level shit too, the kind of grandstanding about biological and social realities that you now find on Matt Walsh's or some TERF's blog lol

@anarchopunk_girl@kolektiva.social this is literally the quality of a lot of foundational texts in the social sciences and honestly it shows. like obviously out of the 200+ different theories there are about 3-4 which are relatively close to being accurate, but most of that accuracy comes from trying to turn 19th century bad science into something that makes sense
