   @emilygorcenski it feels sort of like this is the goal of Tim Berners-Lee's Solid Project, https://solidproject.org/, but I've had a really hard time discerning if that's actually the case from what I've seen of their documentation and advertisement so far.

   I'd love for "this is me on these other platforms" to be a first-class feature, not just something stuffed into some bios.

     @emilygorcenski I like some aspects of this, but I would be concerned about who would pay for self-hosting. If it were a foundation of some sort, their donors might still want a certain level of control over the content being hosted or else they would pull their funds.

     I also think too that there are pro-social benefits to joining a community oriented instance (like how Babka is a Jewish oriented instance) .

     @emilygorcenski I've been dreaming about this for over a decade. A bunch of attempts have come and gone, and I haven't seen any recently that feels like they have quite the right idea and ability to execute. :/
