   I keep seeing anti-gun regulation people with signs and t-shirts that read "Ban idiots, not guns" and as a person who's read a whole lot of data and statistics on gun ownership and safety, I have some real bad news for them...

     @rothko @RickiTarr tell him about how gun laws work in Germany... no private ownership outside of hunting and sport shooting, each sporting weapon has to be approved individually, there's a top limit on number (5-10, I think), no sporting weapons outside of calibers you actually shoot, minimum 1 year club membership & club has to vouch for you, requirements about type of safe to store in, guns have to be stored unloaded, irregular and unannounced controls about this, no carrying permissions for anyone but a select few (cash couriers, mostly)...

     Yet somehow, we still haven't been overrun by communism. Long history of centre-right governments, actually.

     @amberage @RickiTarr my dad is convinced that "gun control" basically means that hillary clinton herself is literally going to come to his house and take his guns. if i hear the phrase "slippery slope" one more fucking time.....

We'll start by requiring background checks, mandatory waiting periods between buying one and receiving it, mandatory inspections of how the guns are stored at home, requiring people to store them in a safe rather than under their pillow, mandating courses and certifications in safe and responsible handling… that should filter most of the "idiots" out, right?

     Oh wait, that's not what they meant?
