We should not present software freedom as a gift, it is a right.
TBH, I don't like much the notion of "giving freedom" present in so many other articles. freedom is hardly ever given, it is earned, conquered even.
but we do share presents at celebrations, which is what this post was about.
@lxo thanks to gnu, that everyone including me can do programming without assigning to company vendors which provided proprietary compilers back in a day. Using GNU+Linux for 10+ years, I even had GNU+Linux at my school in Russia and we had a Linux Journal translated to Russian. For 3+ years I use FSF endorsed distribution Guix using only libre software on my thinkpad x200t for my personal computing.
