So everyone's like, don't use github! Get off github, Microsoft is going to steal your teeth! And they're right, they're completely right. But here is the problem: *Basically every time* someone is using a github alternative, if I have an issue to post, I am unable to post it, usually because of problems with their spam detection (must wait 3 days to file your issue so a moderator can approve you, etc)

@mcc Or their gitlab is so locked down you end up sending patches/issues on their nearly forgotten mailing-list or some random email. -

@lispi314 @mcc @hyc The number of ppl who use mailing lists is just so small they're not profitable to spam. Effort is better spent on forges.

@mcc @hyc That /might/ factor into it if any of the GNU & Debian mailing lists were hosted on the cartel's infrastructure.

@lispi314 @hyc I assume this is because one zillion dollars and a lot of cartel economics have gone into solving the spam problem for email

@mcc @hyc I don't seem to see any such spam on the majority of #MailingLists for projects using them.

@mcc unfortunately, repo spam is super common now. On OpenLDAP we don't use the git* issue trackers, we keep issue tracking in a separate system (formerly jitterbugs, now bugzilla) so the moderation load is split (and so we have complete control of the ticket DB. I still have no idea how to import/export github issues.). We still don't approve gitlab accounts immediately, but you can always open a ticket to report an issue.

@hyc Yes, it's actually always been a problem, around 2016 I actually had to remove all the wikis and issue trackers from my Bitbucket repos because I was getting hundreds of spam comments a day, each full of thousands of 1-800 numbers. This is a very hard problem and it seems no one but github has yet solved it.
