   Oh wow... just spotted a "Translate" button being tested on mastodon.online... See the screenshot attached to this post.

   In case you're wondering, it doesn't do much when I click it, just turns into "Translated from German". No one is speaking in German and the posts are marked as being in English.

     Yup, this is real, here are the technical details as added by @Gargron:

     Apparently this feature was funded by @NGIZero and @EU_Commission which is nice. Props to them ?

     I don't think that's connected to the Mastodon translate option?

     Looks like someone else doing a similar feature but using Google?

     @feditips here i got another instance's translate thing. it seems using google translate as a tool (maybe connected)
     but not like yours screenshot,it hasnt anything says "one language to another language" (in this case,japanese to chinese)
     so let s hope the code writer can find some way to figure this mis-translate,at least do not let it say wrong "langs-to-langs" ?

     @feditips What I would love to see in addition is a manual translate mode where I can switch between languages and self-translate them. A follower could then read the post in the preferred language.

     But I guess this is much more complicated.

     It will be in standard Mastodon, so yes it should be on masto.host servers too. (Unless there's some need for a third party translation server somehow? I am not a dev so I'm not sure :/)

     The reason it's currently only on mastodon.online is because it's owned by the developers so they often use it for testing new feaures before release.
