Wonder how Amy Hamm is holding up. Last time I checked, her college misconduct hearing had been delayed, but vague, anonymous charges of transphobic professional misconduct must be a bit difficult to either prove or disprove.

The last residential school closed in 1996. In nursing school, we talked about the medical experimentation that was done on the kids and how it has left a lot of indigenous people mistrust full of health care institutions. The stated aim of the system was "kill the Indian, save the man". I'll leave that to the individual to decide if it counts as cultural genocide.
Regarding euthanasia, I'm deeply concerned about the application of the policy, and how it seems to be being offered as a social solution rather than just a medical one. I still remember the bad old days, though, of passive euthanasia, and watching people die of dehydration rather than a deliberate overdose. (fun fact, my husband got offered euthanasia for his arthritis. We switched providers)
The article was right to bring these things to light, but there's some nuance going on behind the scenes.
