     @kaia :blobcatshrug2: since lora exists you could just use lora for transmitting encrypted messages over a longer distance, which is in fact legal. There are already projects for this:

     @Zerglingman Yeah. I'm unlicensed myself so I'm stuck with PMR446 and Citizens' Band radio. It's not illegal to receive, only transmit on licensed frequencies.

     Poor encryption schemes may cause interference that's difficult to resolve, but that really isn't a problem anymore.
