    "Greta Thunberg Could Face Jail Term After Second Blockade of Swedish Oil Port"

    "The Swedish climate activist has been charged for a second time for failing to obey police orders."

    (See the linked article at the bottom.)

    Something I posted somewhere else:

    Greta’s perceptive way of seeing the world in very literal, stark terms allows her to clearly see the climate crisis as an emergency, while so many others view climate change as an abstraction. To her it’s not an abstract threat, it’s an evident reality. That’s why she said this:

    "Adults keep saying: “We owe it to the young people to give them hope.” But I don’t want your hope. I don’t want you to be hopeful. I want you to panic. I want you to feel the fear I feel every day. And then I want you to act. I want you to act as you would in a crisis. I want you to act as if the house is on fire. Because it is."

    And she’s right. She began her activism all alone, sitting in front of the Swedish Parliament building holding a sign, while refusing to go to school. She thought school was impossible to attend while the planet was burning. She needed to voice this massive threat to young people. She began the school strike that grew to include other young people.

    Yes, she is a hero.

      @obrerx @actuallyautistic Thats a very good point.

      I guess what I was more responding too was other comments like this one:

      "I have begun to <wonder> if blocking roads and oil terminals is treated as "terrorism" could it lower the bar to doing things that cause actual terror?"

      Which are ignorant of the fact that this is not a new thing, it was happening a decade, two decades, 50 years ago. What has changed is that the climate movement became more mainstream and widespread, so more people see it. (and also because it affects more people with more privileges; in other movements which are more marginalised like the Kurdish movement people are imprisoned for much less and generally receive much more repression).

      I mean, its right to be angry and shocked about it, but the point is the governments are not on our side, never were, and never will be. They have been using this narrative with slight variations for decades and probably hundreds of years.

      I hope people will become more aware of that.

      @radicalresilience @actuallyautistic

      Nothing new at all for an activist to be put in jail.

      But it's still "news" that she faces possible jail.

      She's autistic. Some autistics will be much more impacted by the jail environment. So, putting an autistic activist in jail, one like Greta, for many of us, is something we'll be paying attention to.

      @obrerx @actuallyautistic It is nothing new that activists, and also climate activists, are put in jail. This is the day to day reality. In a way its maybe good that through the high profile of Greta Thunberg this becomes more common knowledge.
