You know why the fascists win? Because they get the left to constantly fight amongst ourselves over purity tests. You're not socialist enough, or anarchist enough, or anti-racist enough or using the exact correct language when being a LGBTQ+ ally. It's why we lose, and why our spaces fall apart, why the real enemy runs rampant and destroys our world.

@Tweetfiction I think another thing that happens a lot is that bad actors — or people having a moment of weakness — can cloak their shit in leftist language, and because leftists care so damn much about things and the language is used to talk about incredibly important things that people often try to silence or ignore, that means that leftists are very easily manipulated and misled by that co-opting. I think we need to start being able to recognize that simply because someone is using jargon that we recognize and use or because someone has had previously good takes before doesn't mean that we shouldn't think critically about all sides of what they are saying. Leftist language should not be a sort of thought terminating cliche where as soon as you see it you shut down your mind and assume whoever is spouting the language is correct. And the fact that it sort of seems like people treat leftist language that way a lot of the time is precisely why fascists try to co-opt leftist language as much as possible.

@solient @Tweetfiction if you're referring to who I'm thinking about yeah it was really upsetting and honestly disingenuous the way he frames that whole thing as being about "fashy trans" people and have the gall to bring up the civility trap when that's precisely what's being done to us trans women right now: provoke us with some harm and then when we respond in an upset manner pretend to be the victims.

@solient @Tweetfiction yeah! like, I was tempted to fucking boost the civility trap post specifically because it so accurately described *precisely* what the person he was defending was himself doing to trans women! But I decided that that would lead to some kind of rhetorical clusterfuck that I didn't want to deal with

Seeing a chunk of highly radioactive debris in my feed originating from an account I had until that point trusted has been a real "what's going on here?" moment.
