    In the last 72 hours I've had two fellow Wobblies respond to my suggestion that our IWW branch have a Mastodon account by announcing that they have Bluesky invites. The Fediverse is as close to anarchism as you can get; Bluesky, meanwhile, is the next Twitter. So what the fuck is going on? Is this a cult or something? "Mastodon? No! Come and drink the Cool-Aid! We can get you in!" Thanks but I'd rather use a forum, on dial-up, than sign up for and use that shit. #IWW #anarchism #Fediverse

      @sidereal Thank you for that! I was beginning to wonder if they were sent to test my reality or something!

      @MediaActivist I absolutely agree that Mastodon/the fediverse would be a great fit for the IWW and people here are way more into my wobblyposting than they ever were on FB, IG, or twitter. Tell your comrades that

      And now just got a bulletin from Crimethinc proudly declaring "We're on Mastodon, Bluesky, and Telegram" haha fucking hell are we doomed or what?

      @MediaActivist
      I can recommend this text which compellingly lays down the arguments for why we should use fedi as anarchists:
      https://distro.f-91w.club/fedizine/

      Obviously, the IWW is not an anarchist org, but some wobblies may be anarchist(-leaning).

      I myself am trying to establish a Mastodon account in our branch, but it's a lot of work to have a social media account at all.

      @MediaActivist I didn't notice anything from Crimethinc in Kolektiva's local feed. I must've just missed their posts.

      @MediaActivist I mean i think it's reasonable for a big agitprop project like crimethinc to have accounts wherever people are. but to ONLY rely on crap like bluesky? that's ridiculous? and to answer your question: yes, it really does kind of seem like a cult :D

      the invite model is the koolaid, i think. tbh brilliant move on their part to bamboozle people into choosing a non-alternative alternative to twitter. for so many people it's about image more than substance.

      @riotmuffin I agree; you've hit the nail on the head about the invite codes being the kool-aid! And I literally just mentioned in my local IWW branch this past week that the comeback is always that tired (and doomed) old anarchist mantra as an excuse: "go where people are." I always say: What people? As if stopping by McDonalds on the way out of the local veganarchist cafe run as a workers cooperative is what we need to do, and where we need to be, to build the new world in the shell of the old. I could understand if there was no alternative, but there literally are alternatives, and overtly anarchist alternatives at that. There are places and spaces where anarchism can be built up and built stronger, all while de-legitimising and undermining centralised big business.
