You really want a 3.3v modded Arduino (very slow, but reliable) or a CH347 (fast but requires perfect connections). -

JavaScript, but I can still find an Arduino in a physical store and should be able to find a suitable 3.3V regular if I look hard enough as well.
Librepi is nice, but it sadly isn't yet ready, since broadcom. -
