@kaia seems to dangerous to me. Usually with those metal 'wallets' you engrave it yourself, that makes more sense. kaia likes this. -

@kaia Do they? I expect anything most stupid from that "industry", but they could just print your pubkey on it and rely on you uploading your secrets yourself to the card when you receive it.

@forthy42
it's a physical card. both the public address and private key are engraved on it by the factory :ChenShrug:
others pointed out there instead are DIY hardware wallets that are safe. -

@kaia The purpose of these types of wallet is that you can hand someone the card and they have full control of the wallet without an on-chain custody trail. The factory does know it at time of manufacture. It's similar to how the credit card factory knows everyone's number, PIN and CVV code. Obviously this is higher risk because you can reverse credit card transactions if the factory got compromised but not Bitcoin if the factory got compromised. These devices have more risk but offer more flexibility so the end user can choose the level of security/convenience tradeoff they want. I personally would not use one of these things but even if someone wanted to use one I would recommend they not put too much BTC in it. kaia likes this.
