Is genocide peace? Is destruction of an entire culture peace? Just because there isn't active military action between two states doesn't really mean "peace" if the Ukrainian people are essentially being held hostage.
I'd wager their wheat is enough of an incentive (25% of the world's production). If Russia gets it, they will hold Africa hostage. We do not want that level of instability popping off. The damage to world markets will far eclipse the cost of sending Ukraine money and weapons. Not including the damage to the African continent's political stability.
This is one sticky area where Russia and China seem to disagree a bit. China is working on exploiting Africa's resources and Russia's threatening to crush their ability to provide resources.
@feld@CSB@useless_idiot@thatguyoverthere "Genocide" is a propaganda word used by war mongers. There is no indication of any such thing. Your comment is a paranoid fever dream. You want the world to be better? Cordial diplomatic relations and productive economic relationships between USA and Russia are a better path.
We haven't made even the smallest effort with Russia.
It starts with not funding wars, triggering insurance and regime change in their neighbors, and all the other dirty shit we do. Closing military bases in Europe would be a great start
@feld@CSB@useless_idiot@thatguyoverthere As if we need Europe more than they need us. They're parasites. They can't sever economic relations with us. We don't need them
