   @DavidPenington @ColinTheMathmo this is absolutely not any kind of change in software development practice.

   As long as programming has been a thing, people have been (too!) quick to copy and paste code.

   Half of the motivation behind object oriented development was to try and increase the ability to support code reuse. Spoiler: it mostly didn't change things (certainly, not on its own).

   I think you look back with glasses too rose-tinted.

     @ColinTheMathmo Laziness (not wanting to do the same thing twice) used to be a virtue in a programmer.
     Unfortunately now they copy-paste vast slabs of code, making minor changes & creating a maintenance nightmare.
