   @icing If your idea of travel is tourism, yeah, it's pretty messed up.

   But what's IMHO more messed up is to treat travel and tourism as largely equivalent, as the author contests.

     In my youth, I remeber good vacations: fishing in Finland, climbing the Dolomites.

     Later, I developed distaste for being dragged into tourism. The New Yorker describes well what I could never put in words.
