I've had this happen for things that I normally wouldn't even find difficult - at times I'm completely unable to identify what triggered it for a specific task.

MeredithW (meredithw@wandering.shop)'s status on Friday, 01-Sep-2023 22:15:00 JST MeredithW @utzer It's an executive function issue. EF dysfunctions are a core symptom of ADHD but not exclusive to it.

MeredithW (meredithw@wandering.shop)'s status on Saturday, 02-Sep-2023 20:19:14 JST MeredithW @marix It's much more frequent and severe for people w/ADHD or other EF problems. Most NTs have difficulty relating to it and truly understanding it. IME, if someone relates to this as a frequent life problem, there's a good chance they aren't really NT, whether or not they have an official diagnosis.

Matthias Bach (marix@chaos.social)'s status on Saturday, 02-Sep-2023 20:19:17 JST Matthias Bach @meredithw not arguing that this is a problem. But I wonder why neurotypicals shouldn't be able to relate to this. Pretty sure this happens to everyone. At least that's what my anecdotal evidence tells me.

Laura Langdon (lauralangdon@hachyderm.io)'s status on Sunday, 24-Sep-2023 12:28:19 JST Laura Langdon @isagalaev @meredithw A rapidly growing proportion of those of us diagnosed with ADHD and/or ASD reject the ‘D’ entirely! Unfortunately an alternative word for a person diagnosed with ADHD hasn’t been mainstreamed yet, the way a person can refer to themselves as “autistic” instead of “having ASD”.

Granted, I don't know what you meant by "neurosparkly", but we were talking about ADHD, and the last D is meaningful. So to clarify, I can't subscribe to thinking of all creative people as having ADHD. And looks like we're in agreement on that?

Laura Langdon (lauralangdon@hachyderm.io)'s status on Sunday, 24-Sep-2023 12:28:21 JST Laura Langdon @isagalaev @meredithw That’s only if you consider it a “disorder”, and I don’t. Just a different wiring schema. 😊

MeredithW (meredithw@wandering.shop)'s status on Sunday, 24-Sep-2023 12:28:23 JST MeredithW * I think ADHx is a disorder if it feels like one to you, isn't if it doesn't. I know people who don't feel like it is, and I'm cool with that for them. I just don't want them insisting I should deny my own lived experience where it does cause impairment in my life.
* I definitely think it should be renamed for a host of reasons (including what I said earlier; it's a deficit in attention REGULATION, not attention itself).
