Women are twice as likely as men to develop Major Depressive Disorder
Some would have you believe that it’s because we are “emotional” but really it’s because we are subjected to at least 2x the bs from society 😒

@rees @kangaroo5383 That’s a spider silk thin connection you are trying to make. And failing. I really don’t like how those suicides include domestic terrorists shooting up schools, public spaces, and religious buildings.
@kangaroo5383 I shall do more research 👍🏻
@bgannin i think the most useful part of the framework is building an understanding for how others experienced the world and to see how fundamental disadvantages exist so we can actively argument for it.
I don’t think anyone can come out of our culture being completely innocent of racism / sexism / classism - we can only actively adjust for it to be more fair in our dealings as much as possible 😅
@bgannin i think being white and relatively more wealthy has more to do w it than being women - are you familiar with intersectionalism? I think that’s the missing piece here
Also internalized misogyny is a thing, they are subjecting themselves to oppression and disrespect. Like mrs waterford in handmaid’s tale. The oppression is there, some are just unaware and thus perpetuate their own demise due to illusions from other parts of their identity.
@kangaroo5383 The more I learn the more I think that’s an exponential value except for privileged (white) women.
@bgannin i mean there is a section on “white feminism” but I’d like to think they do actually advance general feminism in some aspect.
I subscribe to the shine theory of feminism, so I would not discount any brand of feminism. Privilege is intersectional - so race and other things will naturally play a part.
@kangaroo5383 I agreed with that viewpoint until the numbers came in for Trump voters who only cared about Roe v. Wade. > 60% in some demographics (evangelicals, Catholics) This shows IMHO they know options exist for themselves like they did prior to Roe but that the general law needs to be rescinded otherwise.
