I just realized something @kittenlikeasmallcat when my dad would blast ministry; Every single song hed blast came from the same album (psalm 69)...why am i suddenly reminded of this?
@kittenlikeasmallcat ΚΕΦΑΛΗΞΘ is the ministry album i just mentioned that my dad played a lot. It also goes by psalm 69. Its also the one before filth pig. Also have listened to butthole surfers before
@kittenlikeasmallcat youve said before you like the era of ministry between twitch and filth pig iirc? The ministry album ive played the most of is their third album: the land of rape and honey
@Mondobizarrro@kittenlikeasmallcat so, confession, i like Ministry and have seen them live three times, but have actually never listened to a Ministry album. i saw them with Meshuggah in 2008 and they always seemed like the kind of band that would be disappointing on record compared to live. am i wrong?
@kittenlikeasmallcat honestly im really interested in checking out with sympathy and twitch, even their early singles like all day/ every day (is halloween)
@rowb1t@Mondobizarrro I’ve seen them once, and I kind of liked the album versions of some of the less aggroloonytunes songs a little bit better possibly out of pure nostalgia or clarity, but it’s impossible to really mean anything by that. They’re amazing live. TVII and Just One Fix are some of my fav songs ever by anyone and both the live versions slapped my spiritual teeth out of my mouth.
The first one I ever heard was Filth Pig way back in the day, then after getting my hands on earlier singles I got Rio Grande Blood.
They really do sound like several different unrelated bands though so it’s hard to say. Depends on what you’re looking for.
@kittenlikeasmallcat@rowb1t their early shit from what it sounds is gonna feel completely different than what im used to. Like land of rape and honey sounds like ministry, but with more ebm instead of guitars. With sympathy i expect is gonna be nothing of what i expect from a "typical ministry" album
And like i said before im used to hearing my dad blast songs from psalm 69 (namely n.w.o and jesus built my hotrod, moreso the latter)
@kittenlikeasmallcat@Mondobizarrro i was checking setlist.fm to see if i could see what they played (too far back apparently, the set list wasn't available), and was reminded of the fact that the *first* time i saw them was their ""final"" tour lol.
@kittenlikeasmallcat@Mondobizarrro@rowb1t i really hope it shows how much ministry inspires me when i come out with the album i have actually been wanting to make forever
@kittenlikeasmallcat@Mondobizarrro@rowb1t their sampling of voice clips is a specific part of their stuff i really adore that i don’t think makes them for anyone else but me i just really love it
@kittenlikeasmallcat@Mondobizarrro@rowb1t it’d be really interesting to hear that esp if they do smth new with it. not just making it modern but fucking with what they’ve been doing with industrial and slapping it in there would be really cool
