   I’m considering what it would take to simply not my venerable old Civic when it finally goes, and trying to think that through a bit before it happens.

   An electric cargo bike seems like a crucial part of making that work. Any cold-climate-savvy cargo e-bike recommendations? Either specific brands or general strategy?

     Use cases:

     • Doing my 4-mile commute and it’s 10 degrees and icy (I’m ice-cycling-averse; pianists hate hand injuries)

     • Increasingly not-small kid needs a lift home, and didn’t bike there

     • Big grocery run

     • I need to get to some suburb and can’t show up drenched in sweat

     I’d also love ideas about configurations & accessories (studded tire strategies, racks, etc) if you have them.

     @inthehands A Bullitt is always a good choice. Low centre of mass, good weight distribution, handles well, comes with many cargo area options. https://www.larryvsharry.com/en/

     Otherwise:
     - Bosch motors are most reliable
     - Get an internal gear hub if possible, it takes northern winters much better than a derailleur-based setup.
     - If belt drive is an option, go for it.
     - Have a set of winter tyres for the cold season. Schwalbe Winter Marathon, as wide as your frame fits. (Don't compromise on winter tyres)
