Kelowna, a city larger than Boulder, Colorado is burning near the US border in Canada and it's not even mentioned in the news here.
Applying all those lessons learned from ignoring Covid to climate change!

@thomasfuchs the BBC had the news, as did national news sites later. The larger the site, the later they seemed to be.
It’s good to notice this, I wouldn’t have since I was paying attention as I was due to visit next week, and am now glued to their local news for much better current info - and in touch with friends in the area
@craz8 I only know about it because a retrocomputing account I follow is quite directly affected, similar with the situation with COVID
Peeps, the point here isn't that I need to get news about this.
The point is that human-caused climate change, the immediate cause of these catastrophes, is a systemic and global thing (and doesn't stop at human borders)--and it's being deliberately ignored by mass media.
@10MARC fwiw, those aren’t major news outlets, I’m referring to mainstream news stuff (mainly CNN, NBC, Fox)
@thomasfuchs I have seen reports of the fires from Reuters and NPR. It seems to be getting coverage
@thomasfuchs wait a second... Reuters and NPR are not "major" news outlets? I bet they would beg to differ!
Major news outlets get their news from Reuters!
@10MARC Reuters is more like a company that proves news outlets with news and NPR has like <5% market share iirc :)
